Requirements

Admission Requirement

A student must meet the state minimum age requirement of 16 to enter school and the following:

-Pay for enrollment fee and complete an enrollment package

-A copy of a state or federal issued photo identification

-Provide a copy of high school diploma, or its equivalent such as G.E.D, or Home School Diploma approved by the US department of Education

-Foreign diplomas must be translated and evaluated from a recognized agency such as World Educational Services (WES), Globe Language Services, and Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE)

-Transfer hours are accepted based on individual assessments. Transferred students are required to provide a copy of their transcript, take a theory assessment test, and practical tests

Graduation Requirements for Our School

In order to graduate and receive a diploma, students must meet the following requirements:

-Pass with a C average or higher

-Complete the required hours of training

-Complete curriculum requirements

-Fulfill all financial obligations to the school

-Upon completion of all course requirements, successful completion of the State Board of Cosmetology Examination is required to obtain a license to practice.

State Licensing Requirements

Examination prerequisite for licensure;

An individual who wants to obtain a teacher’s, manager’s, cosmetologist’s, cosmetician’s or manicurist’s license must pass the examination given by the Board for that license.

Requirement for Cosmetology Exam

An applicant for the cosmetologist’s examination shall:

1. Be 16 years of age or older.

2. Must have done one of the following:

 a. Completed a 10th grade education or its equivalent.

3. And must have done one of the following:

a. Received training from or under the auspices of the Bureau of Rehabilitation in the Department of Labor and Industry. Subsection (a), does not apply to the following: A veteran or students Thirty-five years of age or older.

b. Completed 1250 hours of instruction in cosmetology, within a period of not less than 8 consecutive months, as a daytime student in a licensed school of cosmetology.

c. Completed 1250 hours of instruction in cosmetology, within a period of not less than 15 consecutive months, as a nighttime student in a licensed school of cosmetology.

d. Completed 2,000 hours of training in a Board-approved cosmetology apprentice program.

Requirement for Teacher's Exam

An applicant for the teacher’s examination shall:

1. Be 18 years of age or older.

2. Have completed a 12th grade education or its equivalent.

3. Received training from or under the auspices of the Bureau of Rehabilitation in the Department of Labor and Industry. Subsection (a), does not apply to the following: A veteran or students Thirty-five years of age or older.

4. Possess a current cosmetologist’s license.

5. Have completed 500 hours of instruction in a cosmetology teacher curriculum in a licensed school of cosmetology.

Requirement for Esthetician Exam

1. Be 16 years of age or older.

2. Complete 10th grade education or it’s equivalent

3. Received training from or under the auspices of the Bureau of Rehabilitation in the Department of Labor and Industry. Subsection (a), does not apply to the following: A veteran or students Thirty-five years of age or older.

4. Shall have completed 300 hours of instruction in skin care in a licensed school of cosmetology.

Requirement for Nail Technology Exam

1. Be 16 years of age or older.

2. Complete 10th grade education or it’s equivalent

3. Received training from or under the auspices of the Bureau of Rehabilitation in the Department of Labor and Industry. Subsection (a), does not apply to the following: A veteran or students Thirty-five years of age or older.

4. Shall have completed 200 hours of instruction in nail technology in a licensed school of cosmetology.

Requirement for Hair Braiding Exam

1. Be 16 years of age or older.

2. Complete 10th grade education or it’s equivalent

3. Received training from or under the auspices of the Bureau of Rehabilitation in the Department of Labor and Industry. Subsection (a), does not apply to the following: A veteran or students Thirty-five years of age or older.

4. Shall have completed 300 hours of board-approved subject relating to sanitation, scalp care, anatomy and natural hair braiding in a licensed school of cosmetology.
